2023 Ford Shoals Series
Notice of Race
1. RULES
1.1. FHYC PHRF Racing is governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) and the rules of PHRF Lake Ontario (PHRF-LO). All Divisions will be scored using the PHRF -LO handicapping system and the Time on Time, point to point (P2P) scoring method.
2. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
2.1. Owners may enter a competing yacht by:
2.1.1. Complying with US Sailing and USCG equipment requirements, and
2.1.2. Assuring that the skipper has sufficient skill to safely participate.
2.2. Prior to the beginning of the sailing season, each yacht shall submit to the FHYC racing committee a signed registration and release from liability form.
2.3. Every yacht wanting to race must maintain liability insurance with a minimum of $300,000 in liability coverage.
2.4. Failure to comply with the conditions of entry will result in the yacht not being scored.
3. THE SERIES
3.1. The Series shall consist of three races as follows:
3.1.1. 1st race, July, 22
3.1.2. 2nd race, Aug, 12
3.1.3. 3rd race Sept, 9
4. DIVISION SPLITS:
4.1. There shall be two scoring divisions: A Spinnaker Division, and a Non-Spinnaker Division.
5. SCORING:
5.1. Scoring will be in accordance with the Low Point System of RRS Appendix A. Except that a boat's finishing place will be determined by her corrected finish time using the PHRF-LO Handicapping system including the PHRF-LO Time on Time, P2P scoring method. PHRF Divisions shall be scored independently of each other.
5.2. A Vessel shall only be scored in one (1) division for the series. A vessel may not switch divisions during the series.
5.3.A boat’s total Series score will be based on all of the races scored in the series except as modified by section.
5.4.If a boat has entered any race during the series she shall be scored for the entire series.
5.5. A boats series score will be based on her place in each of the three races.
5.5. A boat that came to the starting area but is marked DNS, DNF, or DNQ will score points one more than that number of boats that came to the starting area for that race of the series. A boat that does not come to the starting area shall receive points for one more than the number of boats entered in the series.
6. Schedule And Registration
6.1. A Registration form can be downloaded below.
6.2. Completed registration forms may be mailed to Fair Haven Yacht Club, PO Box 304, Fair Haven, NY 13064. Completed forms may also be emailed electronically to Phillip MacArthur.
6.3. There will be a Skippers meeting at 0800 prior to each race of the series.
6.4. The Warning Signal for each race will be made at 1000.
7. BASIS FOR AWARDS
7.1. Awards will be granted to the top three finishing boats in each for the Series.
7. RACE COMMITTEE
7.1.Race Committee duty assignments shall be as determined by the FHYC Racing Committee.
8. PROTEST COMMITTEE
8.1.Protest Committee duty assignments shall be as determined by FHYC Racing Committee as necessary.
8.2. No member of a yacht’s crew involved in a protest shall be assigned Protest Committee duties.
9. MAN OVERBOARD DRILL.
9.1. It is recommended that each participating boat conduct at least one MOB drill during the season.
